Following award-winning production and leadership positions in broadcast news, Jeff Newpher worked in radio sales, print journalism, and church/ministry leadership and communications.
In 2014, Newpher became the City of Friendswood’s first staff member focused on communication to residents, improving the City’s email messaging, website presence, Twitter feed, monthly e-newsletter, and PEG TV Channel content. He oversaw upgrade of the City’s Council Chambers to HDTV, the City’s Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram sites creation, and proactive media relations began. Annually, Jeff works to make the “State of the City” an informative and memorable multimedia event.
Leading up to, during, and following Hurricane Harvey (2017), Jeff used social media, TV news, the Community Notification System, and more than a half-million emails to keep residents warned, informed, and later notified how they could begin to recover or help others.
“Mayor Mike’s Minute” is a video series he has produced approximately every other week since the 2018 election of Mayor Mike Foreman. It is an engaging way for residents to be familiar with important topics.
Having benefitted from scholastic internship programs, Jeff works with Friendswood ISD to provide opportunities for high school media students to receive training and experience. He mentors students at his alma mater, Clarion University.
Jeff has been married to Cindy since 1992. They have a daughter who is approaching college graduation. Their shelter-rescue dog, Luca takes Jeff for a walk twice daily.
