Matthew Riley became the Friendswood Library Director in August of 2018. Riley has been with the Friendswood Library since 1989 and has served in a variety of positions, including Reference Librarian and Assistant Director. As Assistant Director, he was responsible for the reference department, adult programming, online services, training, and other areas of library service and administration.
Riley has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Houston (UH) and a Master of Library Science from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Along with thirty years’ experience in the library field, he was honored for his community service with the Paul Harris Fellow award presented by Friendswood Rotary Club. In his spare time, Riley is a published poet and assists on the board of a nonprofit literary press supporting writers in Houston and surrounding areas.
Matthew, his wife Tara, and their three children, live in Friendswood. They enjoy travelling, especially in the Lone Star State, and spending time outdoors.
