2021 State of the City

Three new ‘Friendswood Legends’ named

During the “State of the City” presentation, Friendswood Mayor Mike Foreman added three people to the list of those honored as a “Friendswood Legend.” Former Mayor Kim Brizendine, former City Manager Ron Cox, and former Friendswood Historical Society President and Board Member Ann Whitaker were honored at the annual mayoral update, hosted by the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Foreman established the “Legend” designation in 2019. Honoring the 2021 Friendswood Legends, Mayor Foreman said, “Kim Brizendine made drainage improvements a priority in the Sun Meadow and Anna Lea areas of Friendswood. Elected to City Council in 1998, he served there until being elected Mayor in 2003. During his tenure, the visionary development of West Ranch began. Today, it’s a crown jewel of Friendswood.”

“One person who knows about preparing for, riding out, and recovering from storms is former City Manager Ron Cox. His determination and leadership have made positive, permanent impacts on downtown drainage, which has made possible development that totals in the millions of dollars,” Foreman said.

“Harold and Ann Whitaker moved to Friendswood in 1971. Ann became a busy volunteer. Most notably, she was on the Board of the Friendswood Historical Society for 20 years, serving ten as President. During that time, the Historical Society increased their preservation efforts, community activities, and educational outreach. Ann enhanced our community’s historic legacy. Present and multiple future generations will be the beneficiary of her hard work,” said Foreman.
