Tropical Weather Outlook

Hurricane season began June 1^st and the tropics are now active. There is currently a disturbance in the Bay of Campeche that has an 80% chance of development in the next 5 days. A tropical depression is expected to form later this week as the low moves northward across the central and northwestern Gulf of Mexico. It is too early to know where the system will go, if or when development occurs. 
 
Residents should be prepared not only for possible tropical development in the Gulf, but for hurricane season in general. Click the link for the National Weather Service (NWS) 2021 Hurricane Preparedness Guide.
 
The following actions can be taken now:

• Stay informed of current weather conditions and possible development of this tropical system. For current weather conditions in our area, go to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston or visit National Hurricane Center.
• Top off your vehicle’s fuel tank and keep your tank at least half full during hurricane season.
• Fill generator fuel tanks and function test them now. 
• Review your family’s emergency plan.
• If you need assistance during times of an emergency event, register for the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) by clicking the link or calling 211.
