Freezing Temperatures Expected Thursday afternoon into this Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued the below for the City of Friendswood:

  • Wind Advisory from Noon to Midnight Thursday. Inland winds at or above 25 mph sustained.
  • Hard Freeze Warning from 6 PM Thursday to Noon Saturday. Temperatures at or below 24 degrees for two or more hours.
  • Wind Chill Warning from 6 PM Thursday to Noon Friday. Wind Chill Temperatures near of below 0 degrees.


The National Weather Service has advised that dangerous weather conditions are possible including severe cold and high winds.

Freezing Temperatures

Residents and visitors are advised to:

  • Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.
  • Stay indoors as much as possible and bring your pets inside
  • Store or secure loose outdoor items (such as trash and recycle cans) in anticipation of high winds
  • Protect your pipes from the severe cold
  • Practice Fire Safety
    • Never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home. 
    • Always use a metal or heat-tempered glass screen when using your fireplace. 
    • Keep candles 12 inches away from anything that burns. 
    • Plug only 1 heat-producing appliance (like a space heater) into an electrical outlet at a time. 
    • Keep anything that can burn a least 3 feet away from any heat source. (Space heater, fireplace, etc.)
    • Ensure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm when you use fuel burning appliances, such as space heaters and fireplaces.
