Traffic Alert:  Friendswood Youth Sports Parade


Saturday, March 25

Some major roads will be temporarily closed in Friendswood on Saturday morning, March 25th, for the Friendswood Youth Sports Day Parade. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m.

FM 518 - Beginning at 8:45 a.m., northbound traffic on FM 518 will be diverted at East Shadowbend, to Morningside Drive, to Pecan Drive and then FM 2351, rejoining FM 518 northbound at FM 2351. At 8:45 a.m., southbound traffic on FM 518 will be diverted east or west at FM 2351. Westbound drivers on FM 2351 go to Sunset Drive, to FM 528, and left to FM 518. Eastbound drivers on FM 2351 go to Blackhawk, to FM 528, and right on FM 518. As the parade passes, sections of FM 518 will be opened to traffic.

FM 2351 - Just before the parade reaches FM 2351, FM 2351 will be closed to traffic from FM 518 to Stadium Lane.  Traffic going east on FM 2351 will take Sunset Drive to FM 528, then rejoin FM 518. Westbound traffic will be momentarily stopped, then follow the parade until the last parade unit is on Stadium Lane.

Uniformed officers will be at major intersections to direct traffic. Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution near the roadways.

Following the parade, at Renwick Park, Girls Softball and Little League Baseball will have their ceremonial “first pitch.”

Virtual Community Engagement Meeting for the Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Basin

The Harris County Flood Control District will hold a virtual Community Engagement Meeting for the Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Basin project located in the Clear Creek watershed. The purpose of this meeting is to inform residents about the project’s status, share project information, and gather important community input on this effort.
 
The Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Basin aims to reduce the impact of flooding in the area by providing mitigation for future channel conveyance improvements. This project is funded, in part, through the 2018 Bond Program, which was approved by Harris County voters on August 25, 2018, and includes significant partnership dollars as well.  Community engagement is a foundational component of the Bond Program, and we invite your participation and input as projects are implemented.

The meeting will begin with a brief presentation to share project updates, followed by a moderated Q&A session with Flood Control District team members. Residents will be able to submit questions, comments and input before, during, and after the meeting, which will be considered during project development. Any comments not addressed during the Q&A session will receive a response at the conclusion of the public comment period. 
 
Even if you are unable to attend the live meeting, residents are encouraged to register for the meeting to receive future project updates. A recorded version of the meeting will be available on the Flood Control District’s website and YouTube channel after the event. Meeting accommodations can be made for those with disabilities.
