Winter Weather Preparedness

With winter weather anticipated, the City of Friendswood would like to share winter weather preparedness tips and an update on the Touch A Truck event. For the latest weather information, visit the National Weather Service Website. 

The 4 P's for a Freeze. People - Minimize time outdoors, Prepare for power outages Check on family, friends, and neighbors . Pets -Keep pets warm, dry, and indoors as much as possible, Ensure their food and water doesn’t freeze. Pipes - Insulate pipes Open up sink cabinets to expose pipes to heated air, Disconnect hoses and turn off sprinklers. Plants - Know their temperature threshold, Cover them before the cold weather arrives.

Winter Prep Checklist - Wrap pipes with insulation to keep them from freezing, Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, Have your furnace inspected, Get your chimney flue and fireplace cleaned, Check & replenish household emergency supply kit, Know where your water shut off valve is located. STEAR Registry

Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency event? The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with additional information on the needs in their community. Texas communities use the registry information in different ways. Registering yourself in the STEAR registry DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency.  Individuals must register each year to remain in the registry. 
Who Should Register?
• People with disabilities
• People who are medically fragile
• People with access and functional needs such as:
   - People who have limited mobility
   - People who have communication barriers
   - People who require additional medical assistance during an emergency event
   - People who require transportation assistance
- People who require personal care assistance
