Incoming Winter Weather

According to the National Weather Service, the City of Friendswood is under the following watches and warnings:


Extreme Cold Warning: 6 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2026, until 12 PM Monday, January 26, 2026.


Extreme Cold Watch: 12 PM, Monday, January 26, 2026, until 12 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. 


With dangerously cold temperatures on the way, it is important to have preparations in place. More tips to stay safe are included in this email. For the latest weather updates, please visit the National Weather Service. 

Winter Storm Warning - There is a high chance that a winter storm could produce heavy snow, freezing rain, and cause serious problems. Winter Storm Watch - There is a possibility that a winter storm could produce heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain, and significant impacts. Winter Weather Advisory - Light amount of wintery precipitation or patchy blowing snow will cause slick conditions and could effect travel if precautions are not taken.

Winter Driving Checklist - check weather before heading out, check road conditions, plan your drive

Stay Home to Stay Safe

With forecasts predicting freezing precipitation, road conditions can be extremely dangerous. Stay home to stay safe. If you must travel, check road conditions by visiting Houston Transtar or Drive Texas.

Frozen Pipe Prevention- Insulate Pipes, Ensure all windows, cracks, holes, and other openings are properly sealed. Maintain indoor temperatures at 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, day and night. Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes. Have your pipes inspected by a professional plumber. Keep doors leading to unheated spaces closed as much as possible.

Pipe Safety

Freezing temperatures can lead to pipes cracking or bursting. Use these tips to properly prepare your pipes. Should you encounter a crack or busted pipe, it is important to know where your water shut off is. Here is a video on how to find it.
